The only real consistency within my aesthetic choices.

I’ve said this before and always will. I know what I want to wear. There’s a philosophy, I believe, that works perfectly for me and the silhouette I want to portray. For all the phases that I’ve been through, though, there has always been a consistency to my outfits. Now, don’t be mistaken to think that “it” has always been there. But the idea was planted waaaay before I decided to make clothing a focus in my life. Like I’ve said previously, I’ve tried my best to be more aware of the brands I wear, where the garment has been manufactured, and by who, or, the kind of employee who was treated well and compensated fairly for their work and labor.

Now, taking all of my considerations at hand, if we were to make a Venn diagram with all of my requirements, there would be one brand in the very middle. And, to be fair to you, the reader, I will list out some of the aspects that I expect in any garment I will consider buying today. It’s nothing much:

  • Made in a country that, at the most part, compensates and cares about the well-being of their workers.

  • Because of the constraints of the previous point, the materials should, hopefully, be made within those same countries.

  • It was actually “designed”. The designer took the time to create the garment. It wasn’t just a tee shirt or hoodie with a graphic slapped on it. Or a “blank” cut and sew piece that can be bought from a catalog. The design would be unique and unique only to that brand and designer.

  • There is a level of utility in the garment. Meaning, it just doesn’t look good or just copies a silhouette following a trend. The wearer should feel “prepared”, if not needing that aspect at the time. It feels nice knowing that anything can happen and this one thing is covered.

  • Pockets

  • Military fabric, camo, research and development testing.

Field Shirt in Flight Satin

What brand would cover all, if not most, of these needs?

Engineered Garments

Hooded Band Collar Shirt

That’s right. This brand has been there with me since the very beginning. It was the first brand that caught my eye while scrolling through tumblr, it was my first “real” menswear purchase, it was my gateway to other brands that I still love today. I can’t praise this brand enough. I can get rid of everything else in my closet and I would be completely happy with just my EG garments. I learned about fabric because of this brand. Everything about clothing that I know now has, in some way or another, its inception through Engineered Garments.
